SHELBYVILLE, Ind. - Karrie Jeremiah pulled a discarded lottery ticket from a restaurant trash can and hit the jackpot.
Two other people had purchased the $5 Hoosier Lottery scratch-off ticket last week at the Chaperral Cafe. When a clerk at the downtown cafe told them it wasn't the $40 winner they were hoping for, they threw it away, lottery officials said.
It wasn't a $40 winner — it was a $100,000 winner.
I, from time to time, Purchase Lottery tickets...... and I never trust a clerk to verify if I am a winner or not..... I find it hard to believe that the clerk didnt know it was a winner.... how could a ticket have a combination of numbers that gives 100,000 but gives 40 bucks with a completely different number? Was the 100,000 for all numbers except the mega while the 40 bucks one was 3 numbers plus mega or some sort of combination?
How could the clerk not figure out that it was a winner? I think the clerk knew it was a winner and either is the one who fished it out of the trash or told another clerk to fish it out......
Remember, trust no one.... those poor folks were screwed out of a big win because they rusted someone.....
