The Mist, Part 2.
Well I mentioned how i was looking forward to the Big Screen Adapatation of The Mist.... Well I wasn't disappointed 99% of the way throught the Movie. It was a excellent portrayal of the short story and it evoked all the feelings you get while reading it. The Downfall of this movie in my eyes was the ending.
Spoiler alert.
If you havent seen the movie and dont want to know the ending stop reading.
Instead of them making it out to a Howard Johnson's... Instead of them turning on the Radio and hearing the word "hope" They end up running out of gas on a road, unable to see anything, but hearing the sounds of the Other wordly creatures. Having only Four bullets, but five of them in the Car It is up to the main character to shoot them all, including his own son... Then he would die by letting the creatures eat him.
Earlier in the Film the son asks the Dad to promise that he wouldn't let the monsters get him... So this was a following through on that promise... So after he shoots them he steps out of the car and "presents" himself for the creatures to come and eat him.... But they do not come... instead, soldiers and armored vehicles come out of the fog, battling the creatures... you can see where they have created a systematic approach to killing them with flamthowers while in full battle gear....
The Dad just sits there, screaming... Then, as he continues to scream you see the people that stayed behind... and one who left early on in the movie... in the military trucks, safe.
I hate this ending. Perhaps this is how Stephen King would have finished it... He did approve the movie... and many of King's works end this way... But I fill this is a betrayal of the novel. King makes these people into smart and thoughtful people... determined to survive... Yet instead of going were gas stations might be, or somewhere they might be able to hold up the movie ends with them on a open road...
Great Movie, Bad ending.

The Mist
The mist by Stephen King has finally been made into a movie. Way back in 85 I read "skeleton crew" and I loved it. The two that stood out the most was "the mist" and "the Raft". The raft saw the Movie screen in 87 in Creepshow 2, while I have been waiting for two things... The movie version of "the mist" and a sequel to explain how it ends.... I remember reading some of King's notes on his writings and I hated/loved that he said he would not "finish it" It was basically up to us to fill in the ending... After all, they did hear the word "hope" at the end didn't they?

Movie review - Xmen 3
NIce action movie surrounding a simple plot. All 5 main X-men are in this one, but not for long. I guess when it comes to Superhero movies "dead" is relative and anyone can come back.
This movie should have happened 2 or 3 movies down the line. It was too short of a run to end this way. They set it up from the get go as a triology, but in my eyes that is a mistake. I am sure someone somewhere figured that movies make the most money when they run in three's, with any fourth movie losing enough money on average to teach movie studios not to make them. Yet they are already going to make another movie, perhaps several. They will call them prequels or spin offs, but they are just a continuation of the storyline.
There a huge Xmen universe out there that hasn't been explored.
The move has a fast pace which I really liked. my bigest problem with all three Xmen movies is the lack of really showing the powers of many of the Mutants. I guess they found it hard to show them on the big screen in a cohesive way but it disappoints when colossus has a small role, that cyclops never really shows his true powers in battle, etc.
My Daughter Daisy and I enjoyed the movie overall. Its fast pace and action packed with surprising twists.
Its already on my netflix queue wanting for its DVD release.

Shaun of the Dead
If you like British humor, and Zombie movies..... Shaun of the dead is a must see.... While not a big budget movie, or with high priced actors the movie gets it done...... I really like the storyline between Shaun and his deadbeat rommie Ed...... all the way to the end....
